What is a Virus?

It is a small program that secretly installs on your computer. A virus is deliberately written to create

copies of itself, this breeding causes the most problems as it interferes with the general operation of the PC, corrupts or deletes data in it's attempts to "Hide" and move from PC to PC.  Some viruses contain a destructive "payload"

Trojans pretend to be genuine program to coax users into allowing them to run. They can appear as "Alarm Messages" or Free Programs while actually damaging your system or other unprotected networked systems. they have also been known to disable some anti virus programs.

What is Spyware and Adware?

Spyware and Adware (now referred to as Malware) are fast becoming more of a problem than viruses. They install like a virus but unlike viruses they do not replicate this allows them to hide from anti-virus software. They collect information from your system, from browsing habits to just about anything it wants and send that information back to its creator. This information is then sold on so the writers are paid, this makes some of them very sophisticated and difficult to remove. Some symptoms are, changing your home page, search page and add additional options to your browser. It can cause havoc with your Internet connection and re-appear if not removed properly.

Virus Removal

If a virus infects your PC we can remove it.  Often this is not a simple process as once on your PC viruses will often try to protect themselves and make it difficult to install Anti Virus software or even in some cases access Anti Virus web sites.  There are two links at the top of this page to online scanners.  These will install a small program and attempt to remove any viruses they detect.  Be warned though they are not always successful.  Sometimes the only way to remove a virus is outside the operating system. That is, without starting Windows!

Malware & Trojan Removal

There is a particularly nasty trojan around at the moment called  Antivirus Pro 2010 also called Antivirus 2008, Antivirus 2009, Antivirus 2010 and Antivirus360. It usually starts as a pop up down by the system tray (bottom right hand corner of your screen) If you get this Do NOT click OK or CANCEL. Close the web browser (Internet explorer, Firefox, Safari etc) If that does not clear the message shut down the computer.  If you reboot and it’s still there then it’s probably to late and you will either need to drop it into us for repair or follow the removal instructions below.

Antivirus Pro 2010 & 2011 Removal Instructions

We do not recommend you attempt to remove this software if you have never tried to remove software like this before. This information is supplied as is and the software suggested is by a third party and we cannot guarantee success. We recommend you have the PC repaired by a professional.

• Download Malwarebytes.
• Disconnect from the Internet and run a full scan of Malwarebytes.
• Run a full scan with the anti-virus program (Symantec Endpoint protection, McAffee, AVG, Avast) installed on your computer.
• For your information, the full scan can take multiple hours to complete properly.

Can I Avoid Viruses and Malware?

Not completely but you can take steps to lower your risk. Don't even consider using the Internet without a trusted anti virus program, a trusted anti Spyware program, and a firewall. As well as these three, always make sure to keep up to date with Microsoft update, Internet Explorer and Office update.
